A survey of 7 casinos in Poipet showed that an average of 700-1,000 Thai politicians and businesspeople played each day, each spending at least THB 500,000 to 1 million daily. Most players are Thai nationals, generating an estimated THB 300 billion annually. At least 22 casinos operate along the Thai border, many involving Thai politicians and businesspeople. Today, these findings are still accurate. The research also revealed that 70% of adults regularly participated in underground lottery gambling. It was predicted that this figure would only continue to rise in the future, which has indeed come to fruition.
Despite this, a study conducted between 19 found that illegal gambling activities in the country, such as underground lottery, football betting, boxing betting, and stock lottery, generated up to THB 360 billion annually. In Thailand, all forms of gambling except horse racing and the state lottery are illegal.
